Bauhaus 2009

Bauhaus
In 1919 Bauhaus was founded as a school for architecture, design, painting, and arts and crafts by Walter Gropius. A design revolution began and the Bauhaus style became one of the most influential currents in Modernist architecture worldwide. Like no other movement it has influenced modern age. Not only the founder of Bauhaus but also many other architects and designers changed the style of aesthetics in Germany and around the globe. Famous national landmarks on both sides of the Atlantic such as the Seagrams and PanAM building in New York; One Liberty Place in Philadelphia and Potsdamer Platz in Berlin are testament to their influence and lasting legacy. The Bauhaus building and master houses have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in the meantime. 90 years later in 2009 Weimar, Jena, Berlin, Dessau and Erfurt celebrate the anniversary of the design movement with impressive exhibitions and outstanding events. The exhibition of sculptures and paintings by famous Bauhaus artists such as Kandinsky, Klee and Itten will take place from March 28 to May 7, 2009 in the New Musuem in Weimar.
